The detective department of the city police is investigating the case, Commissioner of Police, Gautam Mohan Chakravarty, told The Hindu here on Thursday. Mr. Todi is the father-in-law of Rizwanur, whose body was found lying by the side of the rail track near here on September 21, 2007. A CBI probe concluded that Rizwanur had taken his own life. The agency subsequently chargesheeted seven persons including Mr. Todi, his brother and cousin for abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation. The metropolitan magistrate court directed the CBI to arrest the three people by November 3 after they failed to appear in person in response to the charge sheets. But lawyers representing the three pleaded before the city sessions court that day that the execution of the arrest warrants be stayed. Their appeal was refused and the matter will be taken up for hearing again on Nov. 12. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
