Chennai: The FIA has restored sporting power with the Federation of Motor Clubs of India (FMSCI) by a majority vote at the General Assembly meeting held in Paris on Friday. FMSCI secured 48 votes as against 23 by the Motorsports Association of India (MAI). Seven members abstained and one vote was invalid. On June 26, the World Motor Sporting Council had awarded the sporting power to FMSCI, giving the MAI the right to appeal, which the latter exercised and won on a technical point in the FIA International Court of Appeal. Again, an extraordinary general body meeting of the World Motor Sport Council last month stripped MAI of sporting power, and ruled in favour of FMSCI, pending ratification by vote in the FIA General Assembly. FMSCI won the verdict with a clear majority, thus bringing to end decade-long the power struggle. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
