Supplyco move to counter blackmarketing

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (Supplyco) has taken steps to counter attempts to exploit the price difference for commodities in its outlets and open market.

A press release issued by Supplyco here on Friday said it had come to the notice that as the price difference in the Supplyco outlets and the open market touched about 50 per cent, attempts were made to reap undue benefit from the situation with the connivance of some of its employees, the release said.

As a result, genuine consumers did not get the commodities, especially sugar and coriander.

To resolve the problem, Supplyco regulated the prices of certain commodities.

Besides, Supplyco had reduced the prices of some commodities by more than 26 per cent after September 2006.

The prices of only sugar, coriander and dhal were hiked after that, said the release.
