Tiruvallur in semifinals

CHENNAI: Host Tiruvallur entered the semifinals of the under-19 State junior football championship at Avadi on Saturday. It defeated Cuddalore 5-4 in the tie breaker after the two teams were locked 1-1 at full time.

Kadivaran put Tiruvallur ahead in the 48th minute. However, the joy was short-lived with Cuddalore finding the equaliser in the 65th through Sivapriyan.

In the tie breaker, Benny Karthik, Sakthivel, Gunasekaran, Shankar and Srinath pal scored for the winner while Kripanandam, Premkumar, Ganesh and Charles succeeded for Cuddalore.

Earlier Tiruneveli edged out Coimbatore 4-2 via the tie breaker for a quarterfinal berth.

The teams were goalless at the end of regulation time. Praveen Raj, Francis Selvaraj, Jijo and Moses Hubert Singh shot in for Tirunelveli while only Ganesh and Vasanth could score for Coimbatore.
