BSNL to improve its coverage at Sabarimala

PATHANAMTHITTA: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made elaborate arrangements for improving telecommunication facilities at Sabarimala during the two-month annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival that begins on November 16.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, BSNL General Manager C. Sasidharan said the company had already taken steps to extend uninterrupted carpet cellular phone coverage on the Mannarakulanji-Pampa main trunk route to Sabarimala, Nilackal base camp, Pandithavalom and along the trekking path.

Mr. Sasidharan said that BSNL would soon commission Base Trans Stations (BTS) at Kannakkara, Madamon, Nellikkala, Nellickamon, Ulanad, Seethathode, Kanamukku, Kumbalampoika, Mezhuvely, Oonnukal, Thulappally, Mandiram, Murinjakal, Padimon, Puthumala, Tholoozhom, Thonyamala and Vallikkode.

He said temporary mobile BTS’ would be provided at Plappally and Pampa KSRTC bus station.

Adequate mobile phone coverage had already been made available at Laha, Nilackal parking grounds, Pampa, Saramkuthy and Sannidhanam. A mobile BTS would be installed at Karimala on the traditional Sabarimala trekking path. Telecom centres would be opened at Pampa, Sannidhanam and Nilackal and Internet facility would also be made available at all these centres.

Mr. Sasidharan said the BSNL would also extend broadband facility to various offices and shops at Sabarimala and Pampa, besides various media offices, in the next one week itself.

Leased lines could also be provided to various agencies for live video transmission of events to different parts of the globe.
