Chitradurga: A cultural programme titled Yuva Saurabha was held at Chitradurga Jail on Sunday. It was jointly organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture and city-based Madakari Samskritika Sangha. Local artistes G.V. Venugopal and Deepashri sang folk and classical songs for about 163 prison inmates who participated in the programme. The programme aims to provide a chance for the prison inmates to break from the monotonous daily routine and exhibit their talents, said Jail Superintendent Veerabhadrappa. Karibasangowda, an undertrial, entertained the crowd with “eide naadu, eidi bhashe yendendu nannadagirali” from the film “Tirugubana”. He said that Yuva Saurabha not only gave them a chance to exhibit their talent, it also gave them an opportunity to listen to the performance of several local musicians. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
