Government officials called upon to work sincerely

Davangere: Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission S.R. Nayak has called on government officials not to try to please politicians in an attempt to avoid transfers. Be sincere and work honestly while discharging your duties, he advised them after inaugurating a workshop on Human Rights organised by the Davangere district administration here on Sunday.

Mr. Nayak called upon the officials to help the poor and the oppressed people in getting various benefits from the Government schemes. He asked them to introspect whether they were discharging their duties promptly and serving the people and the Government.

“If you are an honest and a sincere officer, even politicians will fear you and you will not have the need to go to their doorsteps. Do not barter your self respect for any materialistic gain,” he told the officials.

Mr. Nayak said that lack of awareness of human rights was the main cause for increase in crime. He stressed on the need to create awareness so that human rights violation could be stopped.

He said that there as a false notion that only torture of undertrials in prisons amounted to human rights violation. Destruction of nature, polluting air and water and creating noise pollution also were human rights violations, he added. The Commission has been initiating action against those who indulged in such activities and several cases have been booked, he informed.

He also said that due to social and economic inequality in our country, there was a wide gap between the rich and the poor and the rich were becoming richer and the poor were becoming poorer.

Mr. Nayak said that Article 14 advocated that MLAs and even the Chief Minister should represent the people and not their party and MLAs and other elected representatives should work more responsibly.
