‘We will strive for more power generation’

Staff Correspondent

KOLAR: Union Minister of State for Surface Transport K.H. Muniyappa on Sunday promised that he and other Ministers from the State along with all Members of Parliament would strive to get Central nod for production of 4,000 MW of power at the proposed Kodige Thermal Power Plant in Bijapur district.

He said this while addressing a foundation-stone laying ceremony to several development projects at Malur, referring to the demand made by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa earlier at the launch of “Nirantara Jyothi,” a pilot programme to supply electricity round-the-clock at Masti village in the district.

“There is no question of discrimination and all the leaders irrespective of party affiliations will work for the development of the State,” Mr Muniyappa said.

Lauding the Government’s move to provide uninterrupted, round-the-clock power supply to domestic consumers and drinking water purpose, the Union Minister urged the Government to take steps to supply power for a minimum of six hours to farmers of dryland regions.

Pointing towards the unprecedented power crisis, the Union Minister stated that the State did not witness such a situation when it was reeling under serious drought for four successive years while S.M. Krishna was Chief Minister.

Energy Minister K.S. Eshwarappa said that all efforts would be made to augment power generation to meet the growing demand. The Government was planning to generate excess power in the State in next five years, he said.

Mr. Yeddyurappa felicitated KPTCL and BESCOM officials for executing the pilot project in record time of 45 days.
