Fire officer gets award

MADURAI: T. Pandi, fire officer attached to the Fire and Rescue Service department here, was recently honoured by Collector S.S. Jawahar for excellence in service.

He was recognised for his work in rescuing 10 people who were marooned in the flood at a low-lying area at a village near Melur.

As the flood waters swelled to a great extent, these people were stranded in their houses and were unable to move out. They also did not want to abandon all their belongings.

Upon receipt of the information, Fire service and rescue personnel rushed to the place and waded through the turbulent waters to rescue them along with their belongings.

In recognition of this work, the ‘Excellent Service Certificate’ was presented to the Fire Officer.
