The interactive programme held in Thrikkakara by the NPOL on Saturday was a resounding success. Kochi: In the wake of the success of its interactive programme for senior secondary students around the city, the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) is planning to hold such sessions for school and college students in other districts of the State as well. Exemplary responseScienergy-08, the NPOL’s one-day interactive programme on science and technology held at its campus in Thrikkakara on Saturday was a resounding success, with exemplary response from student and teaching communities in the city. The event, held as part of the ongoing Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) golden jubilee celebrations, saw the Rajagiri Public School team walk away with the first prize in the science and technology quiz programme, ‘Samasya’. The Naval Children’s School bagged the second prize. In all, twenty schools participated in the programme—the brainchild of young scientists—which was inaugurated by NPOL director S. Ananthanarayanan. Panel discussionThe programme included ‘Samvada’ - a panel discussion with scientists; ‘Sci-Fundaz’- an audio-visual programme; and ‘Samasya’- a science and technology quiz. All 40 students who participated had an opportunity to learn about indigenous defence research and development besides the challenges and opportunities it offers to the young generation. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
