NEW DELHI: Nearly 100 students from 20 schools across 12 countries, including the United States, China, Pakistan, Philippines and Saudi Arabia, are taking part in the 10-day Community Development and Leadership Summit that opened at Modern School on Barakhamba Road here on Monday.

The objective of the summit is to inculcate leadership qualities in young minds coming from different cultures and value systems, and sensitise them to the need for peace in the turmoil-ridden world of today.

During the summit, a book on a compilation of essays written by the participating students on various topics will also be launched. The students will take part in various creative sessions and multimedia presentations.

Talking about the event, Modern School Principal Lata Vaidyanathan said: “International-mindedness is an important virtue to build among students as it will inculcate change and a realisation of humanity’s problems around the world. Developing such a mind-set is one of the main objectives of the summit.”

“We also aim at sensitising the students to different aspects of community development and have a first-hand experience of it. A number of visits to community service centres have been planned for them,” she added.

Representatives of embassies of various countries here in the Capital and principals of other city schools are attending the summit.
