‘Mega adalat’ held

Nine Ministers participate in the event at Kundara

KOLLAM: A total of 444 complaints were settled at a ‘mega adalat’ held at the Kundara mini civil station on Monday.

The adalat for redressing the complaints of residents of the Kundara Assembly constituency was organised by Education Minister M.A. Baby who represents the constituency.

In addition to Mr. Baby, eight ministers, including Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan, Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran, Fisheries Minister S. Sarma, Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas, Public Works Minister Mons Joseph, Electricity Minister A.K. Balan and Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs M. Vijayakumar, participated in the adalat.

A total of 1,616 complaints had been received through the eight grama panchayats, two block panchayats and the MLA’s office by Monday. Those complaints that have not been settled at the adalat are being followed up.

Another 1,383 complaints were submitted on the day of the adalat. These have been sent to the respective departments for the required action.

One of the highlights of the adalat was the announcement of a project to replace all the old foot-bridges on the island grama panchayat of Munroe Thuruthu. An allocation of Rs. 2.24 crore will be made towards this. Requests for reviving the KSRTC schedules to the island were also taken up. As per a decision at the adalat, three schedules will be revived. These are services from Karaunagapally, Prakulam and Kumbalam to the Pattamthuruthu point in Munroe Thuruthu.

Mr. Premachandran informed that steps would be taken to solve the drinking water problem at Kallada and Kundara. He announced an allocation of Rs.12.66 crore for the Kundara drinking water scheme.
