Stern action against terrorism: Kodiyeri

Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has asked the police to take stringent action against terrorism.

He was addressing a meeting of top police officers here on Monday.

Mr. Kodiyeri wanted the police to maintain vigil to prevent terrorist groups from expanding their operations.

He said the law and order situation of the State was fine. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary K.J. Mathew, Director General of Police (DGP) Raman Srivastava, Vigilance Director Jacob Punnoose, Additional DGPs Sibi Mathews, K.P. Somarajan, V.R. Rajeevan, Desmond Netto and Deputy Inspector-General Vinod Kumar who heads the special team probing terrorist groups in the State.

Staff Reporter writes from Thalassery: The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here on Monday remanded to custody two youths arrested from Kozhikode on Sunday in connection with the ongoing investigation into suspected terror links in the State.

V.K.V. Firoz, 28, of Ambalamedu in Kalamassery and U.V. Badaruddin, 28, of Karukapally line in Kochi were remanded to 15 days custody by magistrate V.K. Rajan here. They were arrested from the KSRTC bus station in Kozhikode by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The SIT said they were arrested in connection with the investigation into the death of Mohammed Yasin, one of the four Malayali youths killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

Staff Reporter writes from Kochi: The Muslim Employees Cultural Association (MECA) has alleged that the government and the political parties are, under the guise of terrorist hunt, diverting the attention of the people from the country’s fundamental problems. At its State committee meeting here, MECA alleged that a section of the media and the intelligence wing were in cohorts with communalist-fascists.
