Says government is ignoring demand for High Court Bench

Thiruvananthapuram: The Action Council for High Court (HC) Bench in the city has said the lack of will power on the part of the State government was a major reason why the setting up of a Bench was getting delayed.

In a statement issued here on Monday, action council treasurer Renjith C. Nair said the Tamil Nadu government had successfully set up an HC Bench in Madurai in six months. “Here, despite being the capital city, the State government is ignoring the demand for a Bench even nine months after this stir was launched,” he said.

The statement added the State government was also fiddling with the demand for shifting the District Family Court from its dilapidated building at Pongumoodu to the old Collectorate building at Vanchiyoor. On the 270th day of the stir on Monday, Advocate Shaji Sivan Madavoorpara, clerk Aji J.S. and and FRAT representative Padmanabhan Nair observed a 24-hour fast.
