NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has dismissed a suit pending in a court here seeking a ban on Arya Samaj founder and socio-religious reformer Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s book “Satyarth Prakash”, saying that “the plaintiff wanted to use it as a tool to cause damage to society”. The plaintiff, Usman Ghani, had filed a suit seeking a ban on publication and circulation of the book, submitting that its publication was likely to disturb public peace. Mr. Justice Dhingra observed: “It is not the domain or duty of the lower court to pronounce on the truthfulness of religious tenets or reasonableness of the contents of religious books or to regulate religious sentiments of different religious denominations in society.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
