Religious conversions
M.S. Prabhakara has given a very good account of religious conversion, especially in the northeast, from the early 13th century (A natural process of transformation, Op-Ed, November 7). It is hoped that religious fundamentalists and fanatics learn from these historical facts.

While the article makes interesting reading, it stretches awkwardly to make its point. Extrapolating isolated incidents of “conversion” in Assam and Manipur to the entire Hindu fold is flawed. In any case, Hinduism did not engage in institutionalised conversion like other religions whose conversion tactics have destroyed indigenous culture and religious beliefs all across the world. Countries in Latin America and Africa are examples.
