It was heartening to go through the recognition accorded by C.R.L. Narasimhan (“Bank unions go beyond normal issues,” November 10) for the role being played by the United Forum of Bank Unions comprising lakhs of officers and workmen in the banking industry in opposing the privatisation of public sector banks. He has aptly mentioned that the same remains a largely unrecognised role till now. The Bank Employees Federation of India and bank unions deserve due appreciation for taking up this legitimate public cause, braving critical views in the media. It is a pity that our policy-makers refuse to see reason and continue to push through reforms in the banking and insurance industries. S.V. Venugopalan, Chennai © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
