McKinney (Texas): Arjun Atwal finally broke par to return his best card of the week — a five-under 66 in the last round — to finish a creditable tied 31st at the Nationwide Tour’s season-ending championship here. The Orlando-based golfer, who returned three successive even-par cards before Sunday, ended the tournament with a total of five-under 279. Off the blocks with a birdie on the second hole, Atwal went steady before a bogey-birdie finish left him one-under at the turn. The Indian then played a flawless back-nine which included a couple of birdies and a last-hole eagle to end his campaign on a high. Overnight leader Matt Bettencourt (69) clinched the title with a total of 17-under 267. His compatriot Jeff Klauk finished a stroke behind after returning a 65 in the final round. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
