THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The removal of garbage from the beach resort of Kovalam will resume on Tuesday. The decision comes in the wake of an understanding reached between the State Tourism Department, the Vizhinjam panchayat and Ecopreserve, a Non-government Organisation. The agreement, to resume the removal of garbage from the resort and cleaning of the famed beaches, was arrived at the executive committee meeting of the destination-level committee on responsible tourism held at Kovalam on Monday. Official sources said Ecopreserve, spearheading the cleaning activities for the last two years, had been entrusted with the job this tourism season too. Panchayat president Latha Sugathan chaired the meeting. District Tourism Promotion Council Secretary K.G. Vijayakumar and others were among those who attended. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
