HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday announced reduction with immediate effect in the price of palm oil from Rs.45 to Rs.35 a litre, supplied to white card-holders. He announced the decision at a high-level meeting with officials of the Civil Supplies, Marketing and Horticulture departments. With this, 16 kg of rice, a litre of palm oil and a kilo of toor dal would cost only Rs.97 for a four-member family. According to a press release, Dr. Reddy also decided to increase the input subsidy for growing vegetables and fruits from 1.18 lakh hectares to 1.8 lakh hectares. He asked officials to monitor the prices of vegetables on a day-to-day basis and stressed on market intervention to control them. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
