It was presented by the Defence Minister in New Delhi on Friday ‘It was an inexplicable joy to receive the award for the second time in a row’ PANAJI: The Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence for “best performing shipyard amongst shipyards” was formally presented to Goa-based Goa Shipyard Ltd. (GSL) by Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Friday in New Delhi. Goa Shipyard Ltd. was declared the best performing shipyard in the very year of the inception of the award during 2005-06. The youngest of the Defence shipyards in the country, Goa Shipyard Ltd. has received the award for the second time in a row. The function was chaired by Mr. Anthony and attended by Secretary (Defence Production) Pradeep Kumar and other dignitaries from the Ministry of Defence and armed forces. Goa Shipyard Ltd. has been honoured for its steadfast pursuance of excellence, total customer satisfaction by enhanced productivity, maximising employee participation, pursuing sustained research and development, cost reduction, promoting human resource development and quality conscious approach, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday. Rear Admiral A.K. Handa, Chairman and Managing Director of Goa Shipyard Ltd., who accepted the award said: “It was an inexplicable joy to receive the award for the second time in a row. The bestowal of the coveted award marks the beginning of a new era in Goa Shipyard Ltd.’s quest for excellence.
