Notice to Gujarat police in encounter case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Gujarat police on two separate petitions by the families of two of the Batala House encounter accused — Zeeshan and Shakeel — seeking quashing of an order by a Metropolitan Magistrate here handing them over to the police on a transit remand.

The Magistrate had allowed the Gujarat police to take them on a transit remand to investigate their alleged roles in the Ahmedabad serial blasts in July this year.

Counsel for the petitioners submitted that the police had not told their clients the specific charges for investigation of which they required their remand.

They submitted that earlier the Delhi police had taken them on remand in connection with the Batala House encounter.

Issuing the notice, Justice Kailash Gambhir asked the police to file a reply to the petitions by December 11.
