Students prepare ‘solar city’

Unique project draws praise of government officials



FUTURISTIC: Solar city model displayed by students of Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai.

PUDUKOTTAI: Four students of Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai, displayed a unique project called ‘Solar City’ during Bharath Nirman Public Information Campaign organised by the Press Information Bureau and Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Sri Brahadambal Girls Higher Secondary School.

The campaign was organised to explain the welfare and development programmes being implemented by the State and Central governments.

S. Kishore Raja, G. Themeem Maraikayara, K. Karthees and V. Gomathi, all students of class XI, envisaged a city of the future that used only solar power. It would mean cities with nil pollution and increased longevity and healthier life, they said. In their model ‘Solar City ’ fan, radio, bulb, etc worked with solar power.

The students received help from the Physics faculty of their school. The initiative of the students came in for praise from officials of the government departments who visited the stall.

The students now hope to showcase the model city in various fora. School correspondent Jayabarathan Chelliah, Senior Principal Jonthan J and Principal Ravikumar S commended the students.
