KRISHNAGIRI: A few unidentified armed men robbed local DMK functionary’s residence and decamped with 40 sovereigns of gold ornaments, cell phones, Rs.95, 000 cash and a two-wheeler on Wednesday night. Chinnarasu, former panchayat union president and DMK district treasurer lives at D.K. Nagar in Soolagiri. His residence is very close to a national highway. The accused gained entry through the main door at about 8 p.m. following Mr. Chinnarasu when he returned to his residence. They threatened Chinnarasu and locked him in a room. In the mean time, two more accomplices of the intruders came inside the house and tied Mr. Chinnasamy, his wife Selvi and daughter-in-law Sasikala and before taking away the jewellery they were wearing from them. The robbers also attacked Mr. Chinnarasu when he tried to resist them. They then entered the bedroom and took away 40 sovereign of gold ornaments, Rs. 92,000 in cash, mobile phones and a two wheeler.As all the three family members were locked in a room and were threatened with dire consequences if they tried to raise an alarm. The robbers escaped in the getaway car parked near the national highway. The entire operation took only half an hour.As soon as the robbers escaped, Mr. Chinnarasu and his family members raised an alarm. The neighbours then came to rescue them. On the basis of Mr. Chinnarasu’s complaint, the Soolagiri police registered a case. Sniffer Dog Squad was pressed into service. Forensic experts recorded the finger prints of the intruders. Superintendent of Police, Krishnagiri, Anisha Hussein; DSP, Hosur, Soundarrajan rushed to the spot and spoke to Chinnarasu’s family members. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
