Weaving units down shutters in Edapadi

SALEM: A large number of business establishments and weaving units in Edapadi town near here downed their shutters on Thursday to protest against the move to increase in the property tax. Traders and weaving unit owners also observed a fast.

They claimed that the Edapadi municipality increased the tax by 100 to 150 per cent, which would affect the trading community.

Vigilance Awareness Week observed

The Salem Steel Plant observed Vigilance Awareness week from November 3 to 7. Plant Executive Director B.B. Singh administered a pledge to the employees of the plant on November 3. Deputy General Manager (Vigilance) read out the messages from President of India, Vice-President and Central Vigilance Commission.

‘Mangalsutra’ snatched

Two motorcycle-borne youths snatched a golden ‘mangalsutra’ from a woman at Bharathi Nagar near Sankagiri on Wednesday and fled the spot.

Police said the youths approached Chellammal (55) enquiring an address. One of the youths snatched the gold chain and fled the spot.
