Special Correspondent

CHICKBALLAPUR: A seven-year-old girl was crushed to death, even as her mother watched in horror after she fell under the wheels of a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus at Chickballapur on Wednesday.

The police gave the name of the dead as Sandhya, daughter of construction worker Muniraju of Kolavanahalli village on the outskirts of Chickballapur.

According to the police, Sandhya and her sibling were accompanying their mother, who was on her way to attend her brother’s funeral. While they were coming out of the bus-stand, an inebriated man reportedly pushed his wife and the woman fell on Sandhya. The girl fell on the road and came under the rear wheels of a bus, eye witnesses told The Hindu.

As the doctors at the Government hospital here were on strike, Sandhya was rushed to a private nursing home and she was declared brought dead. The Chickballapur Town police have registered a case of negligent driving leading to death, against the bus driver.
