CHICKBALLAPUR: The Chickballapur district administration lost face on Thursday when officials of a local court arrived at the Assistant Commissioner’s office to confiscate the property, as action against not paying compensation to a farmer. The Government had acquired a site at Varalakonda village, belonging to farmer, Mangamma, of Lakshmisagar village in Gudibande taluk, for constructing a hostel eight years ago. When Mangamma did not receive compensation, she moved court. On February 1, 2008, the court ordered the Chickballapur Assistant Commissioner to pay compensation of Rs. 75,000 to her. The court also ordered that the properties of the Assistant Commissioner’s office be confiscated if there was any delay in paying the compensation. As compensation was not paid, court officials arrived at the Assistant Commissioner’s office. A senior official pleaded with the court staff against confiscation of the property, saying that compensation would be paid to Mangamma before November 20, and the court officials obliged. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
