Czech Republic offers to help State tide over energy crisis

CHENNAI: The Czech Republic has offered to help Tamil Nadu tide over the energy crisis, its Ambassador Hynek Kmonicek said here on Friday.

Mr. Kmonicek along with the Industry and Trade Minister Martin Riman met the Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami on Friday morning to supply technological equipment for building and upgrading atomic, wind and solar energy plants.

“Since setting up of Atomic nuclear plant is a Central subject, we will discuss the matter with the Union Minister concerned on Monday. So far, we have built 100 power stations in India and upgraded some of them including Ennore Power Station. For Tamil Nadu, we can offer our help in setting up hydro, wind and solar power plants to meet the current shortage,” Mr. Kmonicek told The Hindu.

“India can meet its energy demand by setting up more nuclear plants. We have built nuclear plants that are exactly as those you are building. We have built nuclear plant with the help of Russian technology and have upgraded them using U.S. technology. We are ready to transfer our technology and train manpower,” he added.

A 30-member hi-power business delegation comprising of representatives from energy, environment, turnkey equipment, plastic, petrochemical, military equipment, machine tools, real estate, construction, power plant equipment and finance landed in the city on Thursday scouting for production, investment and cooperation.
