Pandey had “major involvement” in Malegaon conspiracy Conspiracy meetings were held in several places Mumbai: Dayanand Pandey alias Sudhakar Dwivedi, a suspect in the Malegaon blast, was on Friday remanded to police custody till November 26. Permission for conducting brain-mapping, polygraph and narco analysis on him was taken from the Nashik court. The remand order states that Pandey had directed suspect Lieutenant-Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit to procure RDX, said Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) counsel Ajay Misar. He is being brought to Mumbai. Traces of RDXForensic tests showed “traces of RDX” in the Malegaon blast. However, there was no confirmation of its being military grade RDX, according to ATS chief Hemant Karkare. Pandey, who is said to be known by two more aliases, had a “major involvement” in the Malegaon conspiracy, Mr. Karkare said earlier. He had close ties with the arrested suspects and took part in several meetings. The “conspiracy” meetings were held in Indore, Deolali, Bhopal and Nashik, among other places, Mr. Karkare said. Pandey’s name had come up during the investigation of other suspects including Ajay Rahirkar. Haryana police in MumbaiPTI reports: A Haryana Railway police team reached Mumbai to interrogate the Malegaon blast suspects Lt. Col. Prasad Shrikant Purohit and Sadhvi Pragnya after it was established that suitcase bombs, which blew up two compartments of the Indo-Pak Samjhauta Express in February last, were assembled in Indore. As the probe intensified, the ATS was tight-lipped on reports that Purohit’s missing laptop, believed to contain crucial information, was traced. In Chandigarh, Inspector-General (Railway Police) K.K. Mishra said: “Our investigations led us to Indore after we got clues that the suitcases and stitching on them, which were used in the Samjhauta explosions, were procured from Indore.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
