CHICKBALLAPUR: Minister for Minorities Welfare, Haj and Wakf Mumtaz Ali Khan on Saturday said that saint-composer Kanakadasa was not just the icon of the Kuruba community, but of the entire mankind. Speaking after inaugurating the birth anniversary celebrations of Kanakadasa organised by the district administration in association with the district Kurubara Sangha at the Nandi Ranga Mandira here, Prof. Khan said that it was unfortunate that large number of people were still unaware of the contribution of Kankadasa. He said Kankadasa occupied a prominent place in the cultural and spiritual sphere of the country as great saints such as Kabirdas and Tulsidas. He congratulated Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa for taking a decision to observe the birth anniversary of Kanakadasa as a State function every year. Prof. Khan released a booklet on Kanakadasa brought out by the Department of Information. Cultural troupes took out a colourful procession in the town to mark Kanakadasa Jayanthi. Prominent people from the Kuruba community were felicitated. Legislators V. Muniyappa, N.H. Shivashankar Reddy, N. Sampangi and K.P. Bache Gowda were present. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
