NEW DELHI: Charging that due to “faulty policies” of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre the savings of the common man had been reduced to half and the back-breaking price rise had robbed every family of hard earned money, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley on Saturday said that in Delhi alone over a crore people had been hit hard by the Centre’s erratic economic policies. Mr. Jaitley, who addressed public meetings at Kirari in West Delhi, said: “Due to heavy fluctuations in the share market people have gone bankrupt in large numbers and some of them have even committed suicide. The people with limited income in Delhi are the worst affected.” With price rise affecting every household, he said it had become difficult for the people living in jhuggi-jhonpri colonies to make both ends meet. In view of this situation, he added, the BJP would emerge victorious in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections by a large majority. “The people of Delhi have suffered during the ten years of Congress rule and have resolved to dislodge it,” he warned. He also appealed to the people to make the BJP candidates – in particular Yogender Sharma from Mustafabad, Anil Jha from Kirari, Vijay Jolly from New Delhi and Naresh Gaur from Babarpur – victorious. Delhi BJP president and party candidate from Krishna Nagar Harsh Vardhan addressing meetings in his constituency said: “Delhi wants to get rid of price rise, bomb blasts and hellish lies and the people have decided to change the Government.” Dr. Vardhan, who undertook a door-to-door campaign in Rani Garden and Block No. 13, 15 and 18 in Geeta Colony, said the Congress Government in Delhi had only made the life of the people difficult. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
