Cooperative society earns Rs. 97,000 profit

Society giving jewel loan up to Rs. 2 lakh from June

Tiruchi: The Tiruchi Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Society has netted a profit of Rs. 97,000 during the financial year 2006-07.

It is expecting a net profit of Rs.3.90 lakh during the 2007-08 fiscal, its Special Officer S. Vinobha said recently.

Presiding over a meeting of the society here, the Special Officer said the Tiruchi Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Society procured agricultural produces such as paddy, pulses and jaggery from the farmers and had been selling to private, cooperative and government institutions on a commission basis.

Owing to this, the society had been earning good revenue.

The society had been giving jewel loan up to Rs. 2 lakh to each person from June.

As many as 20 ration shops and a kerosene bunk were being run through the society, the Special Officer said.

The society, which had started functioning in 1943, had been running on profit, the Special Officer conveyed. The Special Officer, Tiruchi District Cooperative Union S. Mathivanan and other officials participated, an official press release said.
