“Games will be under Congress regime”

NEW DELHI: With electioneering reaching a feverish pitch on Saturday, Congress candidates in many Delhi Assembly constituencies addressed public meetings across the Capital where they spoke about development works and policies initiated by the party.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is contesting the election from New Delhi, undertook a foot march in Lodhi Colony during which she promised to address all the problems of the residents. She exuded confidence that the Commonwealth Games in 2010 would be organised under a Congress government and assured that all the projects related to it would be completed well in time.

Ms. Dikshit, who was accompanied by a large number of party workers and office- bearers from Lodhi Colony, also referred to the construction of flyovers, underpasses, subways and Delhi Metro railway network to underline how she has worked for the development of Delhi.

“Our government’s endeavour has always been to ensure all-round development of the city and bring a smile on every face irrespective of cast or communal considerations,” she said during the march that culminated at Palika Niwas.

A large number of government employees who were present also lauded the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission and enhancement of the income tax exemption limit. On the southern edge of the city in Badarpur, the Congress candidate Ramvir Singh Bidhuri also went on foot to five of the villages during the day.

During his visit to Tajpur, Meethapur, Molar Bund, Jaitpur and Hari Nagar, he spoke to the people about how the Congress under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party president Sonia Gandhi had waived farmers’ loans amounting to Rs.72,000 crores across the country.

In Delhi also, he said, he and other Congress leaders had worked hard to get house tax waived for the villagers and the party had also extended the ‘Lal Dora’ area and increased the compensation of land to Rs.75 lakhs per acre.
