SALEM: Stressing the importance of quality in the infrastructure created under the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREG) Scheme and Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Scheme, Collector J. Chandrakumar said that these development works should be designed and executed in such a manner that they should ensure long-term benefits to the stakeholders. Inspecting the works under the schemes in Ayothiapatinam and Magudanchavadi, the Collector said they were executed in a laudable way. He also pointed out that the works should be expedited to help the beneficiaries in a sustained manner. He explained the benefits of the schemes to the people in the areas. After verifying the records, ID cards and registers regarding the works, he carried out site inspections. He paid a surprise visit to Magudanchavadi union where 240 works were under way at Rs. 1.40 crore. He went to Ekapuram, Thadikaranur and Naduvaneri and inspected the development works under various schemes. Fair price shops also were subjected to thorough scrutiny. He asked the people whether they were receiving the essential commodities in correct measures. He also visited two noon meal centres at Naduvaneri village where the people told him that the fair price shop remained closed for long. He assured them to look into the matter and do the needful. Later, he carried out inspection in Ayothiapattinam where he saw the tar road in Udayapatti under the MLA Local Development Fund and the works at M. Perumalapayam where a pond was being desilted. He inspected many other works under Namakkau Naame scheme, NABARD, Vazhndhu Kattuvom project in Masinaickenpatti and Indira Memorial Housing scheme at Minnampalli. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
