Need to set up an Intensive Care Unit Posting of one more doctor has been sought TIRUCHI: The Central Prison authorities have proposed to procure a host of medical equipment for the prison hospital from the fund sanctioned by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Anbumani Ramadoss. The Minister has sanctioned Rs. 5 lakh from his Member of Parliament Fund. The fund, which would be routed through the District Collector, was allotted last month. The officials have prepared a list of medical equipment to be purchased for the hospital that includes scanning machine, ECG machine with interpretation, blood pressure apparatus, Ambu bag, Nebuliser, I V stand, weighing machine, steel cot with side rack and wheel chairs. The authorities have forwarded a list of required medical equipment to the district administration. The hospital has a strength of 20 beds and is being manned by two doctors. The Central Prison has over 2,000 remand prisoners and convicts. A plan had been forwarded to the Prisons Department to modernise the hospital along with the estimate. Besides seeking to increase the bed strength to about 100, the authorities have sought establishment of an Intensive Care Unit.
