Music and dance from Poland

CULTURALLY RICH: Members of Polish student folk group Jedliniok performing in Chennai on Saturday.

CHENNAI: To mark 90 years of independence of the Republic of Poland and the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Consulate of Poland in Mumbai, a Polish student folk group Jedliniok put up a show of music and dance here at Kalaivanar Arangam on Saturday.

The audience, with both Indian and Polish members, gathered to enjoy the ensemble from different Polish regions and traditional dances such as the polonaise, masur and cracoviac. “Culture is a great medium to bring nations together and to enhance our mutual understanding. This show is the most appropriate way to celebrate this important occasion,” Consul General of Poland in Mumbai Janusz Bylinski said.

“We are happy to share our culture here with you. This evening ‘Incredible India’ will meet ‘Incredible Poland,’” Counsellor of Culture, Science and Higher Education, Embassy of Poland in New Delhi, Arthur Lompart said.

Minister for Information Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, Advisory Member of the Music College of the Government of Tamil Nadu, Srikala Bharath, and President of the Indo Polish Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Tamil Nadu, John Prabakar spoke at the event.
