Swantons lifts Pooja title

KOCHI: Junior Kerala player Jigar D. Shah hit an unbeaten century (111, 103b, 2x6, 16x4) and Sreejith took four wickets as Pattara Swantons CC, Kochi, defeated Chennai’s Parry Sports and Recreation Club by six wickets and won the 58th Maruti Homes Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Sunday.

It was Swantons’ maiden victory in the event, one of the oldest limited-over cricket tournaments in the world.

Parry, batting first, was in deep trouble at 88 for seven before Bhaskar helped the side to a decent total with an entertaining century (102, 51b, 11x6, 5x4). In the end, the effort was not enough.
