Jumbo-sized State executive for TRS

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday announced a jumbo-sized 203-member State executive committee. It comprises 23 vice-presidents, 39 general secretaries, 106 secretaries and 32 joint secretaries.

His son, K. Taraka Ramarao, is one of the general secretaries, while nephew T. Harish Rao, MLA, has been appointed Nizamabad district in-charge. In all, 12 district-in-charges, including MP B. Vinod Kumar, have been named.

Most of the former legislators have been accommodated in the new body which was constituted after a 10-day exercise by a search committee headed by G. Vijayarama Rao. The executive has a finance secretary and two publicity secretaries.

Announcing the names at a press conference here, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said weaker sections were given 62.5 per cent of the executive posts, who would play an active role in taking forward the Telangana movement.

He said that the front organisations would be announced in the next two or three days. The first meeting of the new body would be held shortly.

About 150 in-charges of wards and divisions of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation would be announced next month.

A grievance cell, manned by three members, would also be opened shortly at the Telangana Bhavan here to enable the functionaries/cadres from districts to bring their problems to the party chief’s notice.

Mr Rao said that he would undertake the second leg of his bus ‘yatra’ in December and the details would be finalised by the executive.

‘Eye-wash’

Referring to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s announcement on loan waiver for weavers, Mr. Rao described it as an “eye-wash.” He demanded a moratorium on all private loans taken by them.

He urged the Government to offer a one-time settlement as weavers would not come out of distress unless private loans were cleared.

Later, M. Raghunandan Rao and Y.Srinivas Reddy were unanimously re-elected TRS district presidents of Medak and Mahabubnagar districts, respectively. Addressing the cadres from the two districts, Mr. Rao said greater responsibilities were thrust on the district presidents as the separate Telangana movement had reached a decisive stage.
