MoU to benefit farmers’ group

Coimbatore: The Department of Agriculture Marketing and Agriculture Business, Government of Tamil Nadu, under the IAMWARM (Irrigated Agri Management and Water Bodies Restoration Management) entered into a tripartite agreement with FMCG major Marico and Copra Commodity Group members of Water Users Group, Aliyar Basin in Pollachi.

Dividends

The MoU by the IAMWARM (funded by World Bank) gains significance since it was aimed at bringing in benefits to the coconut farmers and the industry.

The MoU in Pollachi and Udumalpet taluk would reap rich dividends since coconut cultivation was the major source of income in the location.Marico, the Fast Moving Consumer Goods Company has been collecting Copra in Pollachi through the collection centres for the past one year.

The initiation has opened a new window for the farmers under the project as an assured buying source for the copra they are producing. The MoU was signed by Deputy Director of Agriculture, Ramanujam, Sasikumar – Buying Manager – Marico Limited and Sakthivel Gounder, President of Mannur Water Users Association.
