CHENNAI: Chennai is the most populous district of Tamil Nadu with 43,43,645 people and Perambalur district has the lowest population, with 4,93,646 people.

These details are a part of the 2001 census of Tamil Nadu which was published as a CD by Registrar General and Commissioner, Census, Delhi, on Monday.

The total population of Tamil Nadu according to the census is 6,24,05,679, with 3,14,00,909 men and 3,10,04,770 women.
