Traffic is on the increase day by day at the Jail Corner junction. A traffic constable and a bus shelter is very essential here. R.Palanivelu, Pudukottai Road. Postal date seal is not clearPostal seals affixed in inland letters, postcards, etc., indicating the date and station of posting as well as the receiving station are hardly readable. People are in a state of bewilderment when they gaze at the seal to get information with regard to the place and date of posting. Defective postal seals do not serve any purpose. Franking machines can be used in all the Post Offices to affix the seal. I request the Postal Department authorities to do the needful. Aravind.K, Srirangam. Full of smokersRecently I went to a theatre where during the interval time the canteen was full of smokers.. It didn’t look like there was a ban on smoking. I think the theatre authorities should be fined for this. The situation is the same in other public places too. I request the government and authorities to do the needful to prevent smoking in public places since passive smokers are affected more than those who actually smoke. Sanjit.M Senthaneerpuram. Bush growthI am a resident of No.1 Tollgate, Tiruchi. It is very difficult for pedestrians to move in and around Bikshandarkovil Railway Station as thorny bushes have grown. During rainy season, it is worst to walk on the road. The roads have several potholes. Train passengers find it difficult while boarding and alighting at the station. The panchayat does not care to provide basic amenities. S. R. Dasarathan, Bikshandarkovil. Posters galorePeople talk about green city and clean city, but what is seen everywhere in Tiruchi cannot be digested at all. Erection of unauthorised posters and banners have started without bothering about traffic obstructions. Even the walls of GH, Municipal Traveller’s Bungalow and Court are not spared. The least the officials can do is to levy a fine to improve the revenue of the corporation. Dr. S. Raghavan, NIT-T. Pallavan Express stop neededMelmaruvathur on the Tiruchi-Chennai railway route is a famous pilgrim centre which is thronged by a lot of pilgrims throughout the year. It has become an important study centre also. Though a few trains halt at the station, super fast trains like the Pallavan Express stop only during Adi and Puja festivals. We can see many passengers getting down either at Villupuram or at Chengalpet and then go in search of bus stands which are not close by. If the Pallavan Superfast train stops at Melmaruvathur Station it will be of immense help both to the pilgrims and the students. Ilanchelvi Selvamani, Iyyappa Nagar. Not superfastWith Melmaruvathur added to the list of Pallavan Express halts, the train can no more be called superfast as the average speed has reduced to 50 kmph. When the train was introduced, it had only 3 halts _ Viruddhachalam, Villupuram and Chengalpet. Moreover Mampalam and Golden Rock are alighting stoppages on either way. Though the scheduled travel time is 5 and a half hours, it takes 6 hours to cover 336 km between Chennai and Tiruchi. The Railways should declare a train superfast only if the speed is around 100 kmph. A.V.Narayanan, Thillainagar. Post cards not availableMeghdoot post cards were available in Tenur post office and Head Post Office at a subsidised cost of 25 paise. It came in handy for persons who used to communicate frequently. Now-a-days these cards are not available. Non supply of these cards is cited as the reason. I request the postal authorities to resume its supply. S. Mahesh, Tennur. Details of arrears not availableA section of Central Government Pensioners at Tiruchi received recently the first instalment (40 per cent) of their pension arrears promptly through the nationalised banks at TiruchiPost offices at Tiruchi which made payments to other pensioners did not give details. Is it not necessary for the pensioners to know details of payment ? Is it not the duty of the Post offices at Tiruchi to send the details immediately? P.Paramasivam Airport. No tenableCentral retirees became entitled by GOI Resolution on 29.08.08 to parity pension based on 50 per cent minimum of the pay in the respective pay band. Pension ministry has halted payment by clarification dated 03.10.08 that calculation is based on 50 per cent of minimum in the pay band, irrespective of the post of retirement. Apart from nullifying the parity rule, it overrides pay revision Rule 3[5] . Clarification to count pay not drawn in the pay band to the post/pre-revised scale is not tenable. Shantha Rao, Srirangam. Pension disparityThe recent revision of pay scales on the recommendation of the VI Pay Commission has brought acute dissatisfaction. To cite one example, the scale of pay for junior administrative grade officer was Rs.3,700 basic in 1986 revised to Rs.12,000 basic in 1996 and to Rs.15,600 only as basic in 2006 whereas another grade which was Rs.4100 basic in 1986 revised to 14,300 in 1996 has taken a great leap to Rs.37,400 as basic which is termed as pay band 4. What sin the officers and officials brought to pay band 3 and below have committed is unknown. This disparity is unreasonable. This seriously affects the very few surviving old pensioners very badly. This is an appeal to the authorities to rectify this anomaly. A. Jesudoss Muthuswamy, Dindigul Road Lot of hypeIt is heartening to note that Children’s Day celebrations on November 14 has been losing importance and the World Diabetes Day has been given so much importance in media by some private hospitals. A lot of fear has been created among the public as though it is the number one killer disease and patients should allot priority to it. The fact is that malnutrition and infectious diseases are killing more children and people than “rich man” diseases like diabetes and heart attack in our poor country. Dr. D.
