BANGALORE: As many as 12 D.Ed students suffered minor injuries and one was admitted to NIMHANS when the bus in which they were travelling overturned at Bagalur near Sampigehalli on Monday. The bus belonging to Karnataka Education Trust was on its way to Yelahanka and was carrying 35 students of the college. The accident occurred around 12.30 p.m., when the driver lost control of the vehicle. “The students were on their way to the Government Junior College in Yelahanka to attend the second year D.Ed examinations. The accident occurred when the driver applied the brakes suddenly to avoid hitting a stray buffalo,” Basavaraju Y. Malagathi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East Division) told The Hindu. MurderedA gram panchayat member and Congress leader was hacked to death by a gang in the early hours of Monday. The dead was identified as Venkatesh, a member of Kambalipura Gram Panchayat. According to Sulibele police, who are investigating the case, the gang chased Venkatesh around 5.45 a.m. near his agricultural field on Hoskote-Siddlaghatta Road. The gang members attacked him with sickles and machetes and chopped off his legs before fleeing, the police said and added that enmity could be the reason for the crime. In another incident, a 40 year-old man Pillappa was allegedly murdered by his brother Narasimha because of a property dispute in Kumbarahalli near Hoskote. The police have arrested the accused Narasimha. BurgledThe residence of an engineer, Jagannath, who works in a private company, was burgled and gold ornaments and household articles worth Rs. 7.5 lakh were taken away. According to Mr. Jagannath, the burglars entered his house on 4th Street in Railway Layout near K.G. Halli by cutting open the window grills. Mr. Jagannath and his family had gone to Dharmasthala on November 14 and had returned on November 16. Ganja seizedOfficials of the Cantonment Railway Station arrested two drug peddlers and seized ganja. “Based on information we conducted raids on the Karnataka Express recently and arrested the accused. They are Rampal (26) and Suresh Kumar (35), natives of Issar district in Haryana,” sources in the Cantonment Railway Police Station said. The driver managed to flee after the accident. . In the other accident, an agriculturist died on the spot when a tractor overturned on a tank bund on Sunday night.
