Insurance cover given to fisherman’s widow

THANJAVUR: The Collector, M.S. Shanmugham distributed Rs.1 lakh as insurance cover to Vasantha, the widow of Murugaiyan of Maravakadu village in Pattukottai taluk under fisherman insurance scheme at the collectorate here on Monday.

He also handed over Rs.1 lakh to Kaliayammal, wife of a fisherman of Vallavanpattinam village in Sethubavachathiram union. Kaliyammal’s husband died in a fire accident.

The Collector gave a cheque for Rs.21,850 to Mariammal, wife of Pakkirisamy, a fisherman of Pudupattinam village, who did not return to the shore. The collector also assured to help Mariammal’s daughter Pashaneeswari, who has heart problem, to undergo a surgery. From his discretionary fund, the collector gave Rs.10,000 to Kandasamy of Neithal village in Papanasam union.

Jambunathan, Assistant Director of Fisheries, M. Karunakaran, District Revenue Officer, were present on the occasion.
