Most applications for marriage certificates, learner’s licence

KARAIKAL: Marriage certificates and learner’s licences were the most in demand at the ‘jama bandhi session held in Karaikal for people in the Kottuchery commune on Sunday.

The session was part of the district administration’s effort to take “government to the people,” Collector N. Vasanthakumar said.

An official from the Puducherry Women’s Commission said that as many as 400 people came to register their marriage and obtain certificates.

Similarly, the stall of the Regional Transport Office saw more than 200 applicants for learners’ licences through the day.

Officials from 19 departments were present at the V.O.C Higher Secondary School in Kottuchery to speed up the process of addressing public grievances. Due to the popularity of the sessions, one extra session beyond the seven planned sessions would be held, Dr. Vasanthakumar said.

V. Omalingam, MLA, inaugurated the Jama Bandhi, and M. Ramadass, MP, was the special guest along with IAS officers from Puducherry and Mayiladuthurai, who came to witness the proceedings.
