KOCHI: The Kerala Lalithakala Akademi will be presenting Cross Country national art exhibition and will screen select world cinema at the Durbar Hall Art Centre from November 20 to 30. The 10-day exhibition will have some top artists in the country including Yusuf Arackal, S.G. Vasudev, Murali Nagapuzha, Anuradha Pathak and Kattoor G. Narayana Pillai. The exhibition is a kind of a preview to national art exhibition to be held in New Delhi from January 15 to 25, said Sathyapal, secretary of the akademi, addressing a press meet on Tuesday. C. N. Karunakaran, chairman of the akademi, said that Baul music will also be held as part of the inauguration of the art exhibition. The art exhibition will be inaugurated on Thursday at 5.30 p.m. by V. Venu, Principal Secretary, Department of Cultural Affairs, after which V.C. Harris, Director of School of Letters, will give a talk on ‘painting versus cinema’. Ten films have been selected to be screened daily from 6 p.m. onwards. On the inaugural day, the film Les Dites Cariatides by Agnes Varda will be screened at 7 p.m. The following films will be screened on consecutive days: Dreams by Akira Kurosawa; Moment of Innocence by Mohsen Makhmalbaf; The Serpent’s Egg by Ingmar Bergman; A Woman is a Woman by Jean-Luc Godard; Amarcord by Federico Fellini; The 400 Blows by Francois Truffaut; 3-Iron by Kim Ki-Duk, Drunken Angel by Akira Kurosawa; Picasso: The Man and His Work by Edward Quinn and Girl with a Pearl Earring by Peter Webber.
