KOCHI: The vice-chairman of the State Youth Welfare Board, P. Sreeramakrishnan, inaugurated the navigation-training course run by Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation for the sixth batch of students. Thirty students would attend the six-month course that would teach them how to steer passenger and cargo vessels through inland waterways and steps to be taken in case of an emergency. The Corporation’s MD, K. V. R. Varier, said that there is demand to increase the number of seats for the course, especially since job opportunities are opening up to steer tourist vessels and house boats. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
