Malhotra wants Bangladeshis out

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chief Ministerial candidate for Delhi, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, on Tuesday clearly showed his displeasure at the manner in which Bangladeshis have been allowed to stay on in Delhi and even been provided with ration cards and election identity cards.

Addressing media persons at the release of the party’s manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections, Prof. Malhotra claimed that there were about four lakh Bangladesh nationals in Delhi. He said former Chief Election Commissioner T. N. Seshan had deleted 5 lakh names at one go and asked these people to come with valid proof.

“But after him, the Congress governments made all the Bangladeshis voters and issued them ration cards. Also, while the Foreign Department had identified exactly 35,317 people as foreign citizens, the names of less than 300 were deleted from the voters’ list. Why were they not sent away?” he asked.

Also, Mr. Malhotra added, there had been various court orders in the matter and the Delhi High Court had even observed that at least 100 Bangladeshis should be deported every month. “But the Delhi Government due to its vote bank politics has not implemented these court orders,” he said.
