Poojari lambasts LDF government

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: Janardhan Poojari, AICC coordinator in charge of Kerala affairs, has blamed the State government for its alleged failure to tackle terrorism effectively.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Poojari said he did not think the Left Democratic Front would be able to repeat the performance as they have done during the last Lok Sabha elections. He said the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and the Congress Legislature Party were effectively working here to foil the attempts of the LDF to score handsomely at the hustings. “When we are out of power, we work together,” he quipped when asked about groupism in the Congress.

Mr. Poojari said the LDF had failed on all fronts, and there was no safety for the people here. Terrorism was rearing its head in several parts of the State and the State government was a mute spectator, he alleged. He reminded that it was the primary duty of the State government to deal with terrorism and the Central government could not interfere because of the federal structure. He wanted the Police Department to function effectively since Kerala was also experiencing tremors of terrorism. Both the BJP and the CPI(M) were hurling allegations against each other but the reality was that the people here were being terrorised. Congress workers had also become victims.

No action

He said the State government, while taking action in some cases, was reluctant to proceed against its own party men involved in terrorist activities.

He also said that the Centre had been providing all assistance, including good quantity of rice to Kerala, but the State government was diverting these funds in the name of salaries and other routine governmental expenditure.
