Access-controlled expressway planned

T. Ramakrishnan

CHENNAI: The National Highways Authority of India has proposed an access-controlled expressway between Chennai and Bangalore.

To be taken up under the National Highways Development Programme Phase VI, it will come up on a new alignment over a distance of about 335 km in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The responsibilities of design, financing, construction and operation will lie with the concessionaire, which will be selected after floating bids.

Now, the NHAI has invited proposals for consultancy services for the preparation of feasibility-cum-preliminary design report for the expressway. The feasibility studies will have to be completed in six months from the date of signing the agreement between the NHAI and the prospective consultant. Before the end of nine months, the consultants will prepare land plan schedules and bid documents. The last date for submission of proposals for the consultant is December 3.
