Tarunkanti Mishra being conferred the Akshaya Sahitya Samman at Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar. BHUBANESWAR: Writer and civil servant Tarunkanti Mishra was conferred the Akshaya Sahitya Samman, a literary award instituted in memory of late legendary singer-composer and writer Akshaya Mohanty, on the occasion of his sixth death anniversary at Rabindra Mandap here on Sunday. The award that carries a cash of Rs.10, 000, a citation and a shawl was instituted by city-based cultural organisation Samskruti-O-Samskruti. Parliamentarian Prasana Patsani and KIIT deemed university’s Chancellor Achyut Samant jointly presented the award. The event was hosted in collaboration with Orissa Cine Critics’ Association. Pradosh Patnaik and Dilip Hali, representing the host organisations, were present. Acknowledging the award, Mishra announced that he would donate the cash for the library of the Jamujhari jail. ‘Smruti tume Akashaya’, a musical evening with artistes singing songs scripted, sung or composed by Akashaya Mohanty was mounted following the award presentation ceremony. The singers included Bhaskar Puhan, Subhashree Nayak, Swayanshu, Dbendra Satapathy, Geeta Patnaik, Sourav Nayak, Rashmi Mohapatra, Bibhu Kishore, Susmita Das and Bichitrananda Deo.
